Certified Game Master II & Entry-Level GM Trainer

A mid-to-senior level position. The Certified Professional Game Master II (GM) provides role-playing games, and optional music services, to clients with specific needs, and provide RPG training for entry-level Game Mastering trainee clients wishing to learn similar skills.

Reports to: Senior GM Director

General Purpose

Run tabletop role-playing (RPG), live-action role-playing (LARP), or computer-based role-playing games at various locations for clients, also periodically train experienced players as entry-level Game Masters.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Run RPG/LARP sessions for clients.

  • Typically 3-5 players per session.

  • Sessions typically 3-5 each.
  • Prepare adventures in accordance with RPG Therapeutics rules and guidelines, including GM Code of Conduct.

  • Customize program plans to meet defined goals.

  • Complete and regularly update assessment forms.

  • Prepare character sheets for participants to use.

  • Run campaign adventures spanning one-shots to several weeks or months, typically once per week , or every other week, per client group.

  • Insure participant compliance with Player Code of Conduct.

  • Regularly report to RPG staff.

  • Attend regular administrative and training sessions
  • Attend either in-person or via remote access, at least one free training session / administrative meeting per week (3-4 hours)
  • Availability for at least 1 weekly group session per week (game sessions typically 3-5 hours), and up to 10 sessions per week.

  • Reliable schedule compliance

 

Education and Training

Required:

  • Minimum Level 2 GM Certification

  • Minimum 10+ years experience as Game Master with strong proficiency in at least 2  RPG systems in at least 1 RPG format* and at least one RPG system/setting.

Optional but preferred:

  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS).

  • Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC).

  • 20+ years experience as GM with strong proficiency in multiple RPG systems.
  • Other RPG Related certifications/training.

  • Recreation /event management training/certification.

  • Therapeutic Recreation /Recreational Therapy training or certification.

  • Other related advanced certification or training.
  • American Sign Language proficiency
  • Other languages proficiency
  • 5+ years personal experience with all 4 RPG formats*

* Formats include: tabletop (RPG), live-action (LARP), computer-based (CRPG), and solo adventure books and modules (SABM).

Working Conditions

Game Master will frequently work at RPG Therapeutics offices or other locations including but not limited to:

  • Conventions

  • Libraries

  • Community centers

  • Educational institutions

  • Care facilities

  • Mobile Facility, the Wheelchair Friendly RPG Trailer at various locations

 

Hours: Varies

Compensation: $25+/hr. Typically 3 to 5 hours per game session. Number of sessions per week/month/year varies based on GM and client schedule availability. At least 1 session per month, and up to 10 sessions per week.

 

Note: We have overwhelming demand from paying clients far outpacing our ability to provide services due to a lack of sufficiently qualified people.
